Chapter 3- Worlds Colide
-Ariel's POV-
A flash of red and green rushed out of Atlantica. Ariel wanted to get out of that stuffy old sea castle. She had been late for her lessons, and her father was far less than pleased. It wasn't like she had purposely chosen to be late. Then to make it worse... her father decided to threaten her with the blackmail fo he not going to the surface. Problem was, Ariel didn't care. What was so great about teh surface. Her sisters loved the surface, and wished to return. Of course they were also incredibly scared of the open air.
"Ariel, where are you going?" A small blob of yellow and blue swam up towards the mermaid. Ariel slowed down and contined to swim forward with her arms crossed.
The red-haired girl shook her head and then came to a stop. "I'm not sure." Above her she realized that the water around had suddenly become brighter. Above her only about a meter above her head was the shimmer of a large light and the ripple of teh water against the surface.
Without thinking she felt herself swim up towards the edge of the surface. It was as if there was a calling from the other world above her. Then she stopped with just the tips of her fingers against the top fo the water. Flounder swam up his teeth clattering, "Oh Flounder stop being such a guppy." The young fish puffed his cheeks out, Ariel looked at him and shook her head.
What was this feeling? Her heart beat quickly as she lifted her fingers through the water's surface and into the cold waterless surface above. Ariel gasped and pulled her hand back quickly. It was as if something had brushed past her hand, but nothing was there.
Then she slowly swam so her nose was against the water's surface. As her head slowly lifted up into the surface air she became marveled by the sounds her ears heard. What was this? A cool brush of air rushed past her face. Above her was a sea of light blue. It was patched with white smoke pieces in places without any pattern.
She turned her head and saw something that marveled her. Little did she know how much this small wonder would become for her. Ariel saw a green splotch just floating above the surface water. Her heart skipped a beat at this wonder. She had no idea what it was. Then it was if this splotch caught sight of Ariel.
The splotch came hurtling towards her, and she quickly dived back down into the deep depths of her ocean world. Flounder and her rushed into the kelp bed below them, but while Flounder hid and shook in fear, Ariel watched as the green splotch morphed into a boy. A boy with legs. A human.
Ariel was intrigued and looked at the boy who wore green fabric over him, and his hair was red like her own. He seemed curious, and a little disapointed. The mermaid felt bad for rushing off so quickly, but if she had been caught by a human i would end badly. Her father was beyond angry just for her being late for lessons she couldn't imagine what he would do if she was in contact with a human.
The boy looked up as a small light came glowing toward him. He looked at the light with a smile that sent a shiver down Ariel's arms. Then as quickly as he had appeared, he was gone. Ariel slowly swam back up and poked her head through the water's surface. All she could see was the green splotch rush into trees. Though she knew her father's anger she wished for nothing less than to come back tonight, and to meet this green splotch of a boy.
"Ariel?" The girl dived back down to her friend with a smile. His face was pale, and it held an edge of worry in it. Ariel squeezed her friend's fins and rushed down into the depths. Flounder shook his head and rushed off after his mermaid friend.
They came to the boulder and rushed into their secret hideout. "Ariel... are you okay?"
The mermaid had been quiet the whole way there, and for thsi mermaid that was something to wonder. "Oh, Flounder wasn't that something?" She chuckled and spun in a circle before laying on the gound of the cave's floor. It now had a huge spot light from the hole in the ceiling. Ariel looked up to see the light of the surface shining down on her.
"It was like a whole new world. How could father be so fearful of a word like that?" Ariel looked at her friend who was playing in a mirror that was morphed and made him look distorted. "I mean isn't that why he sends us up there... to grow to fear the surface and the humans?" Flounder looked back and nodded befor egoing back to making faces in the mirror.
She stopped and lied on her back in silence for awhile. The way her father had talked about humans over the years Ariel had assumed they looked like monsters. That boy though, his face was no different from her or any of her's sisters' faces. It was peaceful, and curious, like her own. Her sister's had always talked about how it looked at night, because it was only allowed to be out until dawn, but that sunlight and liveliness was special. Better yet, it was something her sisters had never seen, well not since the day their mom had died.
"Ariel, what's this?" Ariel looked over to where he friend was now swimming around a sharp object. that was laying flat on a rock. The mermaid picked it up the gold silver object. She had never seen something like this. What was it?
"Flounder where did you get this?"
"I'm not sure I didn't bring it here." Flounder and her looked up at where the hole was and down at the dagger. Ariel looked around to see where it might have come from, and when she looked up she noticed that the ceiling hole vaguely lingered over here. Had the dagger been sitting on the top of the rock at the point of the blast it might have fallen through.
Ariel lifted it in her fingers and swung it in the air. It was light, but also a bit heavy in the water. As it twisted in the water in a spiral form a few mini bubbles ripped up. "This has to belong to someone up there."
"Ariel...." Flounder gave a worried warning.
"Don't worry," Ariel said putting the sharp gold and silver on a shelf to the right of her. She swam up to the top fo the ceiling and noticed that the water was beginning to become darker. "Anyways, tonight we head to the surface." With that the two swam out of the cave and back towards Atlantica.
-Peter's POV-
Peter had drifted off sitting on the rocks of mermaid cove. His pipes sat in his lap while his hat sat just over his eyes from his forehead. When he opened his eyes he noticed that the sky had changed to night. The stars were twinkling above him, and the crickets could be heard in the grass. He sat up and pulled his hat onto the back of his head.
In the distance he could see the ship of Hook. Had the boys been there with him, they would have insisted a game of pirate hunting. That made him chuckle. As he looked around her stood up and stretched out his arms. His hope was to run into the red-haired mermaid, but had she come around he had slept through the visit.
"Peter, oh peter!" A golden haired mermaid lifted her head out of the water of mermaid code. She was followed by a few others. Peter grinned and flew over to a rock closer to the girls.
"Hello, girls, what's swimming?" He put his hands on his hips and leaned forward.
The mermaid with black hair and pink cover-ups rolled her eyes, "Little miss princess has her surface journey tonight."
"She's sucha spoiled brat." Said a light brunette with her hair pulled back. "Daddy's little princess is an understatement." Peter crossed his arms. The mermaids had mentioned the youngest of the mermaid princesses, and other than sneaking away from Atlantica and being a brat to her father Peter hadn't heard much. That ad she was perculiar and alwaysHe didn't understand adults, or why people would follow what they say.
If this mermaid was the princess coming tonight though... maybe he could get her to help him find his dagger. "So, she'll be here soon then?"
"Yeah, which means we have to leave," the light brunette who's hair was covering her chest said. "Little miss perfect is going to rat us out otherwise." Peter nodded and floated in the air with his feet crossed. The girls waved and dived into the water. Hopefully he would run into this mermaid. That or the one from earlier.
He thought back to the red-haired mermaid from earlier. Who could she possibly be. Peter knew all the mermaids who came to the cove. Except that one. Of course he knew there were many other mermaids, just none that came to the surface.
A splash and flash of red caught his eye in the distance. His hazel eyes watched as the red flash of color turned to a danty hand brushing it back. The hand revealed a face of a girl. If all the mermaids were leaving because the princess was coming up to the surface, then this girl had some guts. That caused Peter to smile. Bravery like that was definitely a trait of the lost boys. Of course, lost boy was the problem in that sentence.
Peter viewed the girl from afar as she looked around. She dived down again and Peter unknowingly yelled. He swore he heard himself say, "Wait!"
Was that really him?
The green tail brushed down quickly. The young boy flew over to where the tail had dived back into the water. He looked down below and noticed her face down below the water's surface. Peter gave a shy grin at the face. The face slowly grew closer and he backed up as her head came out the water. Her hair was bright red, her eyes a foam green, and they gave him a funny feeling in his chest. "Hi."
Her voice sent him butterflies as she replied, "Hello, my name is Ariel."
"Peter, Peter Pan."
A flash of red and green rushed out of Atlantica. Ariel wanted to get out of that stuffy old sea castle. She had been late for her lessons, and her father was far less than pleased.
