Chapter Three
Choices
Not everything is chosen by ourselves in the time of our living. Some choices are chosen by fate before we are born. My father used to tell me that being a water barer was a gift granted to me by Meka. A spirit of the ancient world of Baransu. Believed to be the oldest spirit alive. Some choices though are made only by us and for us. The point of making choices is to find a balance for those around you. Every choice has a consequence of good and bad. It is the balance between the two that matters. The hardest choices are made when the bad is aimed towards ourselves for the good of others. It is that choice that creates a great leader.
~Sir Lor of the Universe
It had been a long... night, day. Oh who knew anymore? Link opened his eyes to see the small frog, Letch, sitting beside his face. He had been walking around the forest when it had begun to storm outside. The frog had come and jumped on his shoulder to lead him to the cave. The frog reminded him of the frog from the swamp. A bleach blond girl had found the two and brought them inside a cave. That was the last he remembered.
“Where am I?” his voice rang out against the rain pounding on the outside of the cave.
A shuffle across the way answered him, “World name... Baransu. You are new here then. Lovely.” The dirty blond blew the hair out of his face to see the figure in the corner. The girl was wrapped in a black cape, and was using the corner of the cave to support herself. Her bleach blond hair was just barely visible underneath the hood. FlapFlapFlap Link looked up to where a bat blew out it's wings above the girl's head. He backed up against the wall and watched as the bat floated down to lay beside the darkened figure. He could just barely see the girl put her arm around the bat.
“Fang,” The boy jumped and turned to the one making the voice, “is her familiar. The two were made for each other by Meka herself!” He looked over again to the girl and her bat. “They're bloody brilliant at that,” Link tapped his head. The voice was mentally engrained in his head. It left an echoing sensation behind, “and sorry dear chap it's how I talk.”
“You'll have to explain that to me later.” With a rub of his finger under the frog's throat he stood up to look outside. It had been dark for awhile now. Probably for longer than normal. He had no reason to complain though, the darkness suited him better anyways. The rain had quieted down by now. Not by much, but enough to walk out. The ground squished beneath his combat boots, and the bottom of his jeans soaked up the rain's remains. Only the faint splash from behind him indicated that Letch had followed. “Don't like to be left alone huh, litttle dude?” A faint agreement entered his head as he stopped walking.
Letch looked up and gave a grin, much like the one Link liked to give, and hopped to his Sentaku's foot. Without another thought Link picked up the muddy creature with both hands. He chuckled and turned back towards the dark forest ahead.

“Dude... sis. Seriously?” FlapFlapFlap “I swear you sleep like a dead rock! Really... I'm going to-” Slap
“Oh my god! Oh, oh gosh I'm so sorry Fang!” The bleach-blond took the hand she had just accidentally slapped the bat with and wrapped him into a hug. If there was one person in Baransu she wished to never harm it would have to be “Ya, gotta know by now you just can't wake me up like that.” The wall that held the boy was empty. “Where's the guy?” Fang gave an are you kidding look before flapping himself into the air.
She turned to bring the hood back over her head and rushed into the darkness outside. Deep foot prints led into the forest. “Oh, you have got to be flipping kidding.” Fang smirked and flew ahead as she ran after the familiar. Her eyes went from their silver hidden color to a black more fearful glow. The wind blew behind her swishing her pixie cut hair straight and hood back. The girl stopped, andheld up her hands to the air. The wind stopped on her command. Fang flopped into her face and scrambled back into the air as she screeched in surprise. The wind picked back up. “Dang it.” Bringing her hands up higher she spun her wrists in a circle. The wind stopped again and the rain began to sprinkle. Today was just not her day.
“Fang!” Her obsideon colored eyes faded to a more curious color of pale pink. “Can you hear that?” The bat gave a roll of what would have been his eyes as they continued on. Fang led the way until they came to the boy sitting on a tree stump. “You should be more careful around here.”
Link jumped and turned away from his green frog in his hands. “Didn't realize I was being followed.” He glared and turned away. The girl tapped him on the shoulder her eyes a bright orange. She understood the whole new place is scary thing, but seriously was there any need to be rude. He scooted away from her touch.
With a sigh she raised her hand to boy, “A-may.” The dirty blonde did an up down look at the hand and her face. “Your's?”
“L-ink,” finally understanding, “is my name.” She smiled, and her eyes faded to a silver color like normal. He didn't bother to ask. From the way he reacted she would guess he thought was just an hallucination. For an Earthian it would be the only thing that made sense.
“It's really early... you should get some more sleep.”
“Early?”
The girl smirked, “You really are new here, aren't ya hotshot?” The boy continued to look up with a confused look. “It's always dark here. Been like that for as long as most can remember.” Laughter sounded from the stump as Link fell over laughing. Dang, this boy sure was rude.“What?”
“You are such a joker!” Thunder cracked and the wind below hard against him in a rage. The girl's eyes were a bright angry red.
“I'm not making this up kid!” That got Link's attention. Her hair blew around in every direction and the trees made creaking sounds. The rain began to funnel behind her. It soon engulfed itself into a larger funnel encircling the two humans and familiars. “You're not on Earth anymore you idiot!” Link fell back and hid behind the stump. The thoughts in her head spun in circles like the wind. If her brain would ever stop thinking it would be a miracle.
Letch flopped into the boys shirt and Fang desperately tried to reach his Sentaku. “The sun hasn't been seen for hundreds of years. Darkness is unwavering in Baransu!” Fang reached her shoulder and began to flap at her face. Her eyes faded quickly to a snow white color. Link tried to grab her as her body tumbled toward the ground. Her breathing was ragged while he held her in his arms. “S-sorry.”
“D-don't be.” She looked up confusedly at his response and then her eyes began to twitch with different colors. Normally she could feel what colors her eyes would turn, but this time they changed from color to color just as her mind wavered from though to thought. Her face no longer hid the emotion within her. Finally she caught her thoughts and emotions together and felt her eyes go toa neutral silver color. Without another thought she rushed up and ran towards the dark woods. “Hey wait!”
A-may did not wait though. So long without fellow human interaction had left her forgetful of their warmth. Who was he to be so kind? Yet, who was he to be so rude and inconsiderate of another's feelings. No, maybe it was her who was being inconsiderate. Her black cape flowed behind her running steps. The wind gave whistle sounds in her ears. Her feet landed in puddles of mud, and her jeans were soaked with brown splashes that flew up from her black boots. Fang's voice in her head was a distant whisper. She wasn't ready for this.
The pattering of her feet became faint. Images of the past... of fear, of home filled her head. The girl turned her head up toward the stars. Her backside hit the floor and her eyes ran pale purple like the liquid that came out of them. Darkness fell on her as her vision faded to darkness.

Left behind Link sat on the stump. What had he done? The girl was a mystery to him, and his head hurt. Probably from the lack of sleep, or something like that. Right now he wanted his friends... and preferably a beer. The burn of it down his throat made his mouth water and fingers twitch. “Care to explain buddy?”
“A-may? She sure is a mystery to everyone, besides Fang of course.”
“Not quite what I meant. Thanks though.” He leaned himself against the stump's downward slope. The girl, other than her bipolar definition, wasn't that bad. He talked out loud to hear something other than the light wind. Shivering at the thought he turned to the frog huddled in the mud. “Her illusion making effect.” A loud laughter sounded in his head. “What?”
The frog was was rolling around in the mud with a sound of croaking chirps, “That wasn't an illusion.”
“What?”
“She did that on her own. Kuki Ruler of the Wind...” Link continued with a blank stare. “AMay was right you really are a nitwit.”
“Hey!”
The frog continued ignoring the outburst. Link folded his arms and narrowed his eyes. He truly had meant the question, “A-may has the power!” the boy just continued to glare with his mouth tilted to the side. “It was a bloody joke my chap. Really though she did that on her own.”Lightning struck and a loud squeal sounded from the forest beyond. “Blimey, Fang!” The black bat came barreling toward the two in a spinning bullet. Link barely had the chance to jump out of the way before Fang began spinning a circles and squeaking loudly. The familiar caught a off sensed wind and skidded into the mud. Fang left a spray from each of his sides like a car driving through a puddle. Without another thought Link ran up and cradled the bat. “You're in shambles my chap.”
The bat replied in a not so polite sounding matter of squeaks. “You okay Fang?” The bat replied and then gave a sound that resembled a sigh.
“Bloody hell! You have got to be kidding.” Letch turned to a very confused Link before returning to the loud squeaking bat, “Hey don't get your knickers in a bunch.. A-may will be- oh for, You are such a nutter Fang.” Link continued to look between the two. He had never been so confused in his life. Okay there was one time, but that would be a story for another time. “We need to go get
A-may.”
Link gave a blinking stare at the two. He had no problem going to help, but nothing was going to be done without knowing, “What's going on?”
“You don't listen do you chap? She goes nuts at thunderstroms... if we don't find her. Well, lets just say what you saw earlier was nothing.” Link didn't bother to ask for an explanation at that. He looked at Fang and gave a nod of his head for the familiar to lead. Letch climbed onto his shoulder as Fang slowly rose back into the air. The pounding of their feet and the pouring rain was all that could be heard in-between the loud cracks of thunder.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~(~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The lightning came hurdling down toward the trees. A shrill scream hit the air from the young girl's throat. Thunder storms and the dark, could it be any worse? The crack of lightning answered her and she dropped to the ground. So much for returning to the cave before she lost control. She curled in a ball and clutched at her other hand. “Go away... go away... go away.” CRACK She screamed again, but the sound of the following thunder took away her voice. The wind stirred stronger through the trees, the limbs began to crack, and the water around her spun in a giant funnel.
Lightning crashed and the rain fell hard. Her screams sounded through the forest and over the lakes. Wind tornadoes and water tunnels spread out through the forest. They were tiny, but if anything the large funnel she was in would be able to be seen for miles. Animal sounds of squawks, squeaks, chirps, neighs, and even loud thumping ravaged the land. The island she was on was torn up by the power of the storm and her element. She put her hands over her ears as she screamed on and on. A few trees fell in her wake, and cries of the fleeing animals being crushed left stilling silence in the din.
Link barely managed to dodge a Pegasus as it flew into the storming sky. A stag came running toward him not long after. He ran against the stampede, following the eye of the storm in the sky. Odd creatures kept hopping and loping across his path. A few water and wind tunnels had caught him off guard, but right now what he needed to do was to get to A-May. Fang had come to sit behind Link's neck and was sending commands to Letch. “Blimely, Fang, I hear ya just fine without you yelling. Go right!” The boy barrel rolled to the right as a horse galloped onward. Screams ahead sounded as more thunder sounded above.
At the eye of the storm Link saw the silhouette of a girl in the distance. He would have to aim his body just right to get through the wall of spinning debris. He put Letch in his pocket and made sure Fang was tightly secure to his shirt. He would have no time to stop or slow down to do this right. One wrong move and he'd be spinning in the funnel with everyone else. The boy picked up his pace by as much as he could and slid in the mud feet first. He hurdled toward A-may. Got to his feet and put his body over A-may's fetal positioned body.
With a quick motion she opened her eyes with a loud scream. The wind picked up speed and then died as suddenly as it had started. The blond looked up her eyes were deep fuchsia color and slowly faded to silver. Without thinking she wrapped her arms around the boy her tears ran the fuchsia color. Yet the water held no sorrow, but joy. Her thoughts were clear and yet at the same time more confused than ever.
“Dude what were you thinking?” Fang's voice scolded in her head. She looked at him, but did not answer. She was too confused by this boy's persistence A-may said nothing. Rain still came down, but the thunder had seemed to stop. For her that was a good thing.
“Why did you come for me?”
Link raised his eyebrows and shrugged, “It was the right thing to do. Couldn't let you or anyone else get hurt now could I.” A-may nodded and said no more. She got to her feet patted the teen on the shoulder and began to walk back to the mountain range and the cave they had been in earlier. Out of the corner of her eye she saw a figure in a black coat. Yet, when she turned to look again nothing was in her line of sight. In this forest though a trick of the light was an odd sight. “Something wrong?”
The girl shook her head and waited for the newbie, “Just my imagination playing games with me.”
