(Cali Vires)
Cali walked onto the train, the Hogwarts express. The compartment had doors with large glass windows. And a large space for luggage up above. She put Yuki next to her and the luggage bag on the cushioned bench seat across. Quickly the blond pulled out the black work robes for school. And the rest of the uniform. Closing the blinds she put the uniform on as quick as possible. And then put her dirty clothes in the luggage bag. Her next step was to get the bag up into the loft. Though after a good twenty million times she just set it at back of the compartment near the windows. She finally took off her backpack and went to grab out a book out of it, but a witch hat was in the way. A note was pinned to the inside with her mom's handwriting.
Love you Cali, wanted to make sure you got the best hat for you first year. We hope to hear all about the school through the snail mail. Maybe we can see if you can get a laptop to work up there and I'll even pay to have internet on it. Then no more snail mail, but quick email. And of course you'll end up using it for more than email. Keep it touch sweetheart <3
~Mama and Josh
Tears slowly ran down her face and her piano fingers of her left hand were held up to her lips. The first year was going to miss her family back in the states. Europe couldn't be that bad though right? Looking over to her albino barn owl she sighed, “Well, girl, seems like just you and me for now.”
As if on cue a boy, looking about the same age as her, knocked on the window. He had rich looking black hair with ice blue eyes, and a scar ran down his nose. His bottom part of his face was unseeable due to a white bandana over the tip of his nose and down. Though she should have been scared out of her wits by this, interesting to say the least, guy she remembered how she had felt when she was told to go somewhere else or was treated rudely, “Um, come in...”
The boy gave a curt nod, but did not answer though he seemed grateful, “What's your name?” The boy asked his voice was slightly muffled by the bandana.
“Cali Lynn Vires, but just call me Cali. Not over the top,” she giggled slightly.
“Nocturn Valkyrie”
Cali jaw dropped at the name, “Thats such a cool name!” The boy didn't seem to think so and just picked up his luggage and put in in the loft. Nocturn seemed to have got it up but at the last second and the luggage started to slip down. Cali jumped up and tried to help, but she grabbed his arm instead of the luggage bag as the train lurched forward.
“Don't touch me!” Nocturn pushed the bag up and threw off Cali's hand.
She recoiled with a yelp., “I-I'm sorry... I was just trying to- nevermind.” The blond turned around and sat down next to Yuki with her back to Nocturn.
The boy seemed to be a bit remorseful about snapping at the young girl like that, but he didn't keep his emotions visible very long, “You're a first year right?”
“Yeah... you?”
“Muggle-born... I presume.”
Cali didn't understand how the boy knew all this but she answered him anyways, “Yes. I am a so-called muggle-born, is there a problem with that?”
He gave a small laugh, “Being a muggle-born doesn't make you bad, at least I don't think so. Others... others might not agree. But that's their thing.” The dark haired boy sat down. Putting his back against the window and his feet on the seat.
With that Cali gave a slight grin, it meant enough to know she wasn't going to be an outcast. “So what house are you in?”
“I'm a first year like yourself.”
“Too cool, maybe we'll be in the same house” Cali grinned a bit wider but let it fall as he just sat there. In which she turned to look out the window. As they came to a lake she saw the boy turn to slump on the whole cushioned bench across from her.
“I was accepted to Hogwarts... guess I was going there anyways. But it was the only place I thought of after I ran away from my parents. Another lady legally adopted me-”
Cali laughed, “How in the world did you manage to just be adopted like that? It's not legally that easy.”
Nocturn looked apauld, “Are you saying that I'm lying!?”
“No I'm saying it's just not that easy. There was obviously more to it. That's all.” Cali watched as the lake passed to the distance. Nocturn had went silent and when she looked over she saw him asleep with his head against the back cushion of the seat. Her own eyes fluttered open and close and she soon had her head against the train window. She felt safe there, not only that she felt warm. Why she didn't know.
(Nocturn Valkyrie)
Nocturn had been awoken by a lady with a bunch of sweets. When he looked over he saw the girl asleep. So he just asked the lady for two blankets for them. They were only able to get one. Guess he could just sit by her a share the blanket. So he moved over the sleeping owl to the floor by Cali's luggage and sat down with the blanket over both of them. The girl was sweet, but he could tell she was insecure. Maybe they would end up being friends. He slipped once again into slumber and awoke again to find himself leaning on Cali. He got up quickly and sat on the other side. Oh, well no blanket. Nocturn made sure his new friend's blanket was completely on her and then looked out the window. A large castle stood just over a body of water. They were here, “Cali...Cali, wake up.”
The dirty-blond haired girl's eyes slowly opened, “A-are we here?”
“Yep,” The boy lended his hand to Cali and he went to grab her stuff for her.
“T-thank you,” Seemed there was one thing Cali wasn't used to, hospitality. Especially not from a guy by the looks of it. Her hair was a mess and she seemed not the even care how she looked. Definitively not used to much attention.
Nocturn smiled and gave a polite nod. He grabbed his luggage and was glad to see that the girl had waited for him. Then they walked through the crowed hallway an onto the station's concrete floor. “First years over here,” a tall round man with a long brown beard came over, tons of first years and other Hogwarts students poured out of the Hogwarts Express. Him and Cali followed the man as he led them to the large body of water. Many boats with a candlelit lamp were tied to the docks. Four people to a boat. Great... more people than Nocturn really liked. A boy with bleached hair and blue streaks came into the boat with them. Followed by a girl with brunette hair. The brunette wore the black robes like everyone else... except you could see she had on sparkly pink tennis shoes. Nocturn didn't say a word to them, and actually he saw Cali was watching them suspiciously too.
The boat infront of them seemed to be having trouble. A girl was arguing with another girl that the boat was already full. Though obviously there was room for three more. The girl trying to get into the boat glared at the other, and walked away saying something unaudible. The girl in the boat just smiled and looked around. She caught the eye of two boys and called them over. Great... a daddy's girl. Another boy joined the three. And actually not much longer the round, beard said some words and the boats began to move toward the candle-winking castle.
He couldn't believe his eyes as he caught the movement of floating candle within the windows. Cali tapped him on the shoulder and pointed to where the lead boat had landed. A lady with floor length blond hair stood just beyond the docks. As they pulled up to the docks he got a better view of the lady. Se looked to be in her mid twenties, and she had on a black robe and witch hat like the rest of the students. The only difference was that he hat was rimmed in a yellow ribbon and she had what looked like a shield with four different colors and a mini shield in the middle embroided on her left... well actually it was embroided right above her left breast. He helped Cali out of the boat and went to turn to get their stuff. Which had magically disappeared. “Where's Yuki?” Cali's voice came in a whisper.
“Don't worry about your belongings. They will be brought to your room after you find out your House for the next seven years,” The lady said it as if she was speaking to everyone, but her eyes laid on Cali. “I am Professor Aurora, assistant to Headmaster Haden. And your guide to the welcome assembly. Welcome home, and welcome to a wonderful beginning. Now if you just follow me.” Nocturn turned to his blue eyed friend and the two walked up the steps. Soooo many steps.
(Cali Vies)
Cali had never walked so many steps and corridors. Nocturn seemed to not have even one problem with these steps. Of course you couldn't tell an expression very well with his face covered by that bandana. The group got halted at the last step. Fellow first years still stood around the corner. Gosh... so many people could do magic. And who knew what else. “Now-”
“Eh, could you just open the doors. Haven't we waited long enough?” The girl who had kicked the other out the boat earlier popped up.
“Niobe, correct?” the professor definitely did not like to be interrupted. “Maybe you'll need to wait the longest. Anyways, when you get in go in quietly as possible. We have four houses.... Slytherin house of the mysteivious like Headmaster Haden. Hufflepuff house of the loyal like myself. Ravenclaw house of the wise like Professor Minerva. And Griffindor house of the brave like Professor Percy . Look at a table you wish to join, and which one sound most like you. Think that house in your head, and I promise the choosing hat will have final choice. But be warned... sometimes the hat will say things, you may not want everyone know.” Cali felt Nocturn go stiff for a bit, but he seemed to be okay after a bit. And they didn't have much of a chance to double think anything.
The doors opened to another coridoor and the two doors in front of them were huge. It looked like a formal mess hall with over hundred kids at each of the four long tables. They all had on black robes with a certain colored shield embroided into the left corner. The two that were in the boat with them were close by. Along with the snotty girl named Niobe. She reminded her of all the kids who had treated her like crap during her elementary years.
“Welcome to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardly. I am Headmaster Haden.” A man with jet black hair stood up. He wore a silver robe and reminded Cali of a principal. Guess headmaster meant same thing. Europe stuff... “When your name is called come sit at the chair and Professor Aurora will put that hat on your head. Diana Athene.” a brunette hair girl pushed forward. And Cali quickly realized that it was the same girl from their boat. Professor Aurora put the with hat on her head and it quickly came to life.”
“You... daughter of two Slytherins.” Hushed whispers came around though none of them could be understood from where the group stood. The girl seemed to look around like it was the major secret she didn't want everyone to know. Though Cali didn't understand why. A witch with two parents who understood it all. She must know everything to do with the wizarding world. But the hat continued to interupt the first year's thoughts, “You though.... wish not to follow the line. I know the perfect house for you. Ravenclaw!” The girl grinned and quickly walked to the table that was cheering. The names continued and Cali only paid attention to a few of them. The three boys that had sat with Niobe: Herman Garcia(Hermes), Patrick Jackline(Pan), and Matthew Thesius had all been put into Slytherin, guess that would work well. The next person that she recognized was the boy from their boat. His bleach blond hair looked ghostly in the candle light and his spikes looked green. Guess it fit because he, Marcus Typhon, got put into to Slytherin. He didn't sit by the other three boys though.
“Nocturn Valkyrie.” Cali gave him a go on grin and watched as Aurora put the talking hat on his head.
The hat's wrinkled fabric eyes widened, “You have many secrets.... mystevious to say the least” No he couldn't get put into Slytherin. That wasn't fair. “You would be perfect in the Slytherin house. Sly-”
“Hell, no!” What? Nocturn's eye shifted to look up towards where the hat was, “No way in hell would I let myself be put in the house of snakes.” The hall went silent and Cali starred at her friend. Talk about some guts.
The hat seemed unphased and sighed, “Then there is only one house left for you to be in, Gryffindor!” The house of red cheered loudly and welcomed him in the seats with the other lions and lionesses.
“Cali Vires,” heh guess who was in alphabetic order after Nocturn.
The blond walked up and sat onto the stool. She looked at the professor and swore she gave her a friendly smile before putting that hat on her head. “Muggle-born huh?” oh gee thanks talking hat. “Life's always harder for you muggle ones. You seem to have it... even worse. That takes bravery, and loyalty to yourself.” So Hufflepuff or Gryffindor... Diana or Nocturn.. Did this go through everyone elses heads too? “Your loyalty to friends is much stronger though then to rules and regulations. Gryffindor!” Cali wanted to shout with joy as she walked over to her fellow lions. Nocturn grinned and welcomed her over to sit by her. But they weren't over yet. Only a handful of kids still waited. And the first years all seemed to look at the one girl who had spoken out to Professor Aurora.
“Niobe...Madet.” The girl strolled up. And pulled the talking hat onto her head right from Aurora's hand.
“Special this one... you sure do have a mind of your own. You are not mechevious, or very brave, and wisdom is not your ground point. Loyal though to one belief you are... Hufflepuff!” No cheers came from the table, or welcomings from the fellow badgers. None of this though seemed to phase the black haired first year. Whatever she was loyal to could only mean trouble.
Cali walked onto the train, the Hogwarts express. The compartment had doors with large glass windows. And a large space for luggage up above.
